Precision Oxygen Therapeutics
Blood is a system. Oxygen delivery is a function. Nature does not regulate oxygen delivery by hemoglobin concentration alone. It regulates oxygen loading, affinity, unloading, blood flow, vascular signaling, microcirculation, diffusion and cellular demand across multiple biological levels.
BHOC exists because oxygen therapeutics should be evaluated in the same functional way: by what oxygen is actually made available to tissue, under the conditions where that function is needed, and with product-specific physiology and evidence.
The historical question:
How much blood or hemoglobin did we replace?
The Precision Oxygen Therapeutics question:
Did we deliver the oxygen that tissue needed, where it was needed, when it was needed?
That is the transition from the historical idea of a blood substitute to a function-first category: Precision Oxygen Therapeutics.
